"Images of the Middle East" 12. august 2006.

It is an honour for me to participate in this opening of the culture festival, Images of the Middle East. From tonight and until the 20th of September this festival will provide Danes with a unique opportunity to acquire an insight into the rich and dynamic cultural life and arts, which can be found across the Middle East, and which encompasses numerous ancient and very modern elements and expressions.
I have personally had the opportunity to encounter and experience some of the vast diversity in Middle Eastern culture and art during travels in the region. And I’m looking forward to seeing and experiencing much more of it during this festival.
Encounters between cultures enable us to comprehend the surrounding complex world better and they help us understand our own culture and ourselves better. Dialogue across cultures brings people together; highlight common ground as well as differences and foster greater intercultural understanding.
It is my sincere hope that many Danes will benefit from this festival, and that it will succeed in bringing a tiny snip of the Middle East and the rich Middle Eastern culture at their feet, ready to be explored. I hereby declare Images of the Middle East open.
